Assistant or Associate Professor of ASL/English Interpreting - University of North Florida

The University of North Florida, College of Education and Human Services, invites applications for a 9 month, tenure-earning position as an Assistant or Associate Professor in the B.S. and M.Ed. degree programs in ASL/English Interpreting, beginning in January 2011 or August 2011.

This position requires teaching in both programs with hybrid and distance technology, an active research agenda, and a commitment to program development and CCIE accreditation. Summer teaching is available. The B.S. program at UNF, established in 2007, serves students through onsite/hybrid delivery in a 2+2 articulation model with 2-year interpreting degree programs around the state. The M.Ed. program was implemented in January 2009, and students from 16 states in the southeast region can attend for in-state tuition. The program is delivered via distance technology with an onsite weekend seminar each semester. Both programs are philosophically devoted to service-learning in the Deaf community, interpreting research, and international study opportunities. Nestled among more than 1,000 acres of trees, trails and lakes, the university is located in beautiful Jacksonville near beaches and the Florida School for the Deaf & Blind in historic St. Augustine.

Qualifications:

(1) An earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Special Education, Deaf Education, Linguistics, or related field.

(2) National certification from RID (CSC, CI/CT, NIC, AVLIC, or NAD IV/V). Current interpreting experience, and university teaching experience in ASL/English Interpreting.

(3) Evidence of or potential for scholarly writing and publication.

Preference will be given to individuals with:

Multiple interpreting certifications from RID/AVLIC, full-time university teaching experience in ASL/English Interpreting, evidence of scholarly productivity and research experience, experience and commitment to working with diverse populations, experience in curriculum design and program development, and experience delivering instruction via distance learning technologies.

The salary range is $55,000 - negotiable, depending upon qualifications and experience. The position is open until filled. Review of applications will begin on September 7, 2010.
