What is the PARID Mentorship Program?
The PARID Mentorship Program has been developed to assist interpreters to earn certification so they can provide interpreting services in Pennsylvania. This mentorship program has two main parts. The first part is a required 15-hour training for both mentors and protégés. This training will provide a foundation of how to approach the mentoring relationship so that all of the participants are operating within the same framework. By the end of the 15–hour training, the committee will pair mentors and protégés. Pairs may utilize face-to-face and/or distance mentoring. The second part of the program is the actual mentoring. The mentor and protégé are required to meet for a minimum of 8 hours over a 4 month period. During those 8 hours, the protégé and mentor will focus on specific skills that need to be developed. Stephanie Winslow of ASL Interpreter Connect, LLC will provide the training and a pre– and post-work assessment for each protégé.
How much does the Program cost?
Mentors do not pay a fee to participate in the PARID Mentorship Program. However, mentors are responsible for their own travel, lodging, meals, etc. to attend the training.
Protégés pay a fee of $250 (made payable to PARID) to participate in the PARID Mentorship Program. Protégés are also responsible for their own travel, lodging, meals, etc. to attend the training.
